Spanish Skills Required: Beginner Experience Required: None. If you have the time, energy, desire, and love to help a fellow human being, this is a welcoming open-doors project. Opportunity to learn & train hands-on with the staff exists daily. The shelter houses 10-14 elderly as well as a free medical clinic run by visiting Colombian volunteer professional nurses & doctors. Not only are the shelter residents served but also the homeless. This setting will offer an unforgettable and valuable rich experience for anyone interested in health professions and social work professions. While participating, you may visit other local & regional organizations such as retirement homes, youth shelter, childcare center for children of sex workers, public school physical education, community club sports, and dog haven. "I recently had the opportunity to travel down to Colombia to observe ad ride along in the ambulance which was AMAZING! I feel like I learned a lot and got the opportunity to see the behind the scenes of medicine that I really wouldn't have had the opportunity to see at home. I also got to participate in Search and Rescue training. I would recommend that you do night shifts so you could see what it's like to wake up at 3.a.m..for a medical emergency. This experience is going to be very useful when I go to medical school. I am very grateful for this experience!"
